MRE-Chapter 4

Xiao Zhan woke up alone in his room, and the good thing was that he doesn’t feel anything with his body, of course he would something has entered his body. Thankfully Lan Zhan was fast asleep last night, and they couldn’t consummate their marriage. If they will, it will be the 2nd time that he will be at the bottom with a different person but has the same face.

 

After his relationship with Wang Yibo, he promised that he will never ever be the bottom again. Wei Ying is one of the best cultivators in the Empire even though he’s a dominant omega, he had a good swordsmanship when he was young but for unknown reason he stops using and bringing his sword. That is why some people often called him as a disgrace in a cultivation world and better is he has become a simple ‘housewife’ since everyone knew how attracted he is to the current emperor and candidate as an empress.

 

This might be the reason why Wei Ying changed his attitude as he grew up. It’s been 10 years since he stopped using his sword and currently it is sealed in an unknown place. Some rumors say that his sword, Suibian, sealed itself since his golden core has blackened and can no longer be used for cultivation. Despite being a good swordman, it doesn’t change the fact that he has a beautiful appearance that even girls cannot be compared.

During his stay on the empire Wei Ying barely use Chenqing and use it as a hide it on his room, since he ceased using his sword and uses his flute as his spiritual tool for his cultivation, however he only brought this whenever he is sneaking the palace for his protection as he has restrictions as well.

 

Due to curiosity Xiao Zhan tried to use Chenqing and for some reason he’s quite good at it. It really soothes his feelings and lightens his mood, he kind of misses his modern life, though he’s a famous graphic designer he has a good voice as well. Maybe this is the reason why he is somehow comfortable in using this flute and good with music.

 

But before he could enjoy his peaceful solitary life, Wen Ning announced the arrival of the emperor.

 

“Aiyo, why does he want?” Xiao Zhan muttered to himself. Lan Zhan enters his room and because of last night incident, he is annoyed by this man and didn’t even greet him.

 

“My Empress, did you sleep well?”

 

“Yes, thanks to you. I had a good night’s sleep,” Xiao Zhan said sarcastically.

 

“That’s good to hear.” There’s an awkward silence between the two, Lan Zhan felt that Wei Ying is indeed acting in a different way, he is not his modest and proper self, but more of crude and outgoing. Some servants fear him because of his temper and severity as well.

 

“Do you want to walk in the garden with me?” Lan Zhan tried to invite him to observe him more and what kind of schemes he has.

 

“Aiyo, with you?” Xiao Zhan looks at him repulsively, he doesn’t even talk to Yibo alone when they have a meeting, and he usually talks to his brother.

 

“Your Highness, I think it is a good idea to walk in the garden with the emperor,” Wen Qing tried to suggest him to stand up and walk outside, Wen Qing had enough of Xiao Zhan being lethargic and just rolling on his bed all day.  Obviously, since the emperor is the highest person of the empire and Wei Ying is the Empress, for Wen Qing it is her job to support the two and they need to produce a successor as well and this might be a good opportunity for them to have a good relationship.

 

Xiao Zhan felt betrayed by the sudden action of Wen Qing, to be honest he is still afraid of Wen Qing especially since she knows how to properly handle big needles. Reluctantly, he follows the emperor outside his palace, while walking in the garden he realized that this place has fresh air and thought that he should invest some real estate outside the city when he goes back to his real world. Although he and Yibo have a house in outskirt, but since they broke up, no one has made use of that house as far as he knows. Because they both are wealthy there’s no problem with them forgetting one or two properties, but then he thought that it’s still a waste of money if they will just leave it there.

 

Unbeknownst to him while in deep thought, Lan Zhan asked him what kept him busy for the past days, he is trying to uncover Wei Ying’s mask as for him, he is still with coalition of the enemy.

 

“Nothing, busy rolling around my room, why are you going to banish me as an Empress?” Xiao Zhan idly said, but for him it is better that way so less stress and less politics and he still needs to find a way to leave this novel and give Lan Zhan a happy ending.

 

“Ah! Lan Zhan, what makes you happy?” Xiao Zhan asked happily, he’s trying to fulfill his wishes like a genie, and this might be a way to finish this novel. However, Lan Zhan face darkened as he stares at him, Xiao Zhan felt shudders on his skin, this man is cold and scary when he is angry, so how did he become a puppet emperor, Xian Zhan thought.

 

“Why are you asking,” Lan Zhan said.

 

“Well, I wanted to fulfill it for you.”

 

“Why?”

 

“For you to have a happy ending?”

 

Lan Zhan just laughs it off, but not in a happy way but in a mocking way. It is really insulting to hear that from Wei Wuxian, he wanted to fulfill his wish where in fact it’s him and the Wen Clan is the main problem and the one who’s trying to trap him down. Do they think that he is a small child that will be happy if you give some candy?

 

 

“Why? Do you feel sorry for me?” Lan Zhan said with an apathetic face. Xiao Zhan doesn’t know what to respond, he would like to say yes but at the same time he doesn’t want to hurt his feelings.

 

“Do you think that if you fulfil my wishes, I will fall in love with you?”

 

“Huh?! I didn’t say that! I don’t need you to fall in love with me!” What’s with the sudden arrogance, Xiao Zhan thought, and he realized that maybe Lan Zhan’s mask as timid, weak and puppet emperor is falling.

 

“You told me, the night before our marriage ceremony, that I must fall in love with you and choose you. Did you forget that as well?”

 

Xiao Zhan was unable to answer those question, he doesn’t know why some memories of Wei Ying’s are coming back to him and like what Lan Zhan said, they met the night of the accident. So, is Lan Zhan the culprit?

 

“You, did you push me on the lake?” Xiao Zhan stares keenly at him.

 

“You are really funny Wei Wuxian but not in a good way, do you think that if I tried to kill you everything will be solve? How brazen are you? We’ll you are right at least if I attempted to kill you at least there will be one less pawn of Wen Cl—-” But before Lan Zhan could finish his sentence, Xiao Zhan smack him on the face, it’s not even that hard, just enough to stop him.

 

Xiao Zhan didn’t even know why he did that and rushed away, he was upset and irritated, “Who the hell he think he is! Yes, he may be the emperor but that’s not it! Why are you letting them hurt you like that! Aiyo stupid Wei Wuxian!” Xiao Zhan said as he mumbles to himself.

 

On the other hand, Lan Zhan froze on the spot, it is the first time that he saw Wei Ying like that, normally he tries to keep hold of his fury with them and gave a pretentious smile, but earlier he really looks mad and sad. Lan Zhan tightened his fist to the point of digging his nail into his palms. He loses his composure and luckily, they are the only one here, he really needs to find out Wei Ying’s schemes.

 

“It doesn’t even hurt, you used to be —” Lan Zhan grumbles but didn’t continue what he was saying.

 

Xiao Zhan ran towards the training room and saw Xiao Xingchen practicing with his sword ‘Shuang’ or Frost. Xiao Zhan thought that Xingchen is stunning and the fact that he is his type as well.

 

“Wow! Bravo! You’re elegant Xingchen!” Xiao Zhan said as he tries to flatter him, he needed to get his attention and be close to him, if Lan Zhan doesn’t want a happy ending why not try his chance with Xingchen, maybe they are truly the soul mate even if they are both omegas.

 

“You’re here You’re Highness.” Xingchen coldly but courteously greets him.

 

“You are very graceful when dancing with your sword! You should try to perform during the banquet!” Xiao Zhan excitedly said while trying to flirt with him.

 

“Thank you for the praise Your Highness, but I will only perform in front of the emperor.”

 

“Aiyo! Just stop thinking about that mad man, he doesn’t deserve you!” Xiao Zhan said as he was still angry about what happened earlier and crossed his arms and pouts.

 

“I know you have a formidable clan behind your back, but you should still respect him, he is our Emperor.” Xingchen scolds him.

 

“He doesn’t even care about me, so why would I be concerned about him.”

 

“Wei Wuxian!” Xingchen had enough with him disrespecting Lan Zhan.

“Why are you getting mad at me as well, I just wanted to be close to you.”

 

“Why? Are you so proud that you already had your night together with the emperor?”

 

“What are you even saying!” Xiao Zhan said with a disgusted face.

 

“It’s disgusting just thinking about him and me in the same bed, ew, blegh!”

 

“Haha, don’t forget that someday your wicked schemes will be put to an end. Appreciate it while you still have the power.” Xingchen said as he leaves the area.

 

“Wait Xingchen, trust me! Nothing really happened to us! We just fall asleep!” Xiao Zhan yells as he struggles to explain his side, but Xingchen is nowhere to be found.

 

On the other side of the palace, the Wen clan has been asking Youwen about the status of Wei Ying, he informs them that he’s recuperated, but he knows that they are just trying to use Wei Ying because of his possession of Stygian tiger Amulet, which is originally part of the Yin Iron. However, due to its immense power, even the Wen clan don’t even know how to use it.

 

They have experimented with countless bodies from alpha to omega however all of them became fierce ghosts only. They can only use some of Yin Iron’s power, they tried to get the Stygian Amulet from Wei Ying before, but it seems like the amulet already chose its holder as Wei Ying forged it himself from the Yin Iron. As a result, Wen Rouhan decided to use Wei Ying instead, beside the said omega is a cultivator and can produce an heir as well, and the most important thing is he has a feeling for their puppet emperor.

 

It’s been 10 years since Wei Ying had a contract with the Wen Clan, in return for being the Empress, so he tried to learn everything since he was 15 years old. Wen Rouhan thought that it is a big issue when someone tried to assassinate Wei Ying without their knowledge, but this might be the perfect opportunity to blame Xingchen with the accident, that night someone saw Xingchen running from the direction of the lake, but they didn’t see him with Wei Ying.

Xingchen is loyal to Lan Zhan, and he is the current lover of the Lan Zhan as well, but he’s torn as their puppet emperor intends him to be his concubine and he’s a dominant omega as well.  This is a wonderful chance interrogate the two without pulling any string in the back and quickly Rouhan asked Youwen to call Wei Ying.

 

Wei Ying anxiously went to the Wen Clan’s and greeted them, by the story of the Wen Ning and Qing, they are the most influential clan right now even above the emperor and somehow guarantor of Wei Ying, Xiao Zhan hates this, this is too much political.

 

“Uhm hello, Mr. Wen?” Xiao Zhan awkwardly salutes them.

 

“Ha-ha why are you so anxious Wei Ying, or should I say Your Highness, since you are now our Empress. How are you?”

 

“Haha I’m good now, I’m just trying to recall what happened that night.”

 

“We already investigated what happened, we will have a prosecution in a few days.”

 

“Really?! So, you really caught the culprit? Wow you guys are powerful.”

 

Stunned by his current attitude Rouhan coughs and says, “We will just call you during the trial, for now, I think you need more time to rest.”

 

“Ah yes, thanks! Just call me! Come on Wen Ning!” Xiao Zhan swiftly ran outside the room.

 

“Wah! That really scared me, Wen Ning! He’s a scary person.” Xiao Zhan said, and Wen Ning just nodded in agreement.
