Chapter 23

“Aiyo! It’s so cold! Why is it snowing right now when we are travelling, right, Apple?” Xiao Zhan said as he complained about their current situation and the donkey just plainly ignored him. They saw the donkey that was abandoned along the way, and it only follows if you give it an apple.

“Don’t worry Your Highness, we will arrive at our destination in a few hours,” Youwen said.

“I told you, just call me Wei – no from now on let’s change our name, okay? Call me Xiao Zhan.”

“Then give us new names since it’s your idea,” Wen Qing said.

The group arrived at their destination, it is in a secluded area after the burial mound, they had to collect their talisman on the cave as well and when they were staying on the inn for the month, Xiao Zhan told them their plan. Youwen decided to follow the empress and the Wen siblings also followed them as Wen Ning will not be safe in the eyes of cultivators, especially when he is already a living corpse.

While they are on the inn, Youwen travels from time to time to look for a place to stay and thankfully they found a small village that is secluded, most of the people in the village are elderly that is why they have decided to stay there and purchase some lands and asked some helpers to build their house.

The siblings stay in the same house since they are both betas, but Youwen decided to build another house besides the empress’ house since he is an alpha and it would be bad for him if they stay in the same house. Fortunately, the people in the village are heartwarming and friendly despite living a simple life.

Since Wen Ning is already a living corpse, they still decided to continue applying makeup on his face and body to avoid suspicion and work freely. For quite some time now, after peacefully settling down, they established some business as well for their daily needs, of course they have some money from the palace but if it’s for a long time they must replenish their treasury as well.

Since Wen Qing have knowledge in the medicine field, it is a great help to the village since there’s only one local doctor and the siblings decided to work for him to learn new knowledge and share what she knows as well, since the village is small, they only accept some crops, foods, or useful things that their patient can pay.

While Xiao Zhan decided to open a small restaurant that accepts barter as a payment of course they only accept what the customer can pay, during his free time, he also teaches some children in the village and taught some housewife to design and make new fashionable clothes that their husband can sell whenever they are out of the village and work. Youwen also helps and guards the empress whenever he is working, although they are far from the capital it is better to be safe.

It has been a year since they decided to leave the capital, he has been sending letters to the Jiang clan as well from time to time using a falcon, and as usual asked them to keep it a secret from the emperor. Xiao Zhan didn’t inform them as well where they were currently staying and thankfully, they understood him, he explained the situation during the time they had spent in the palace.

However, for the past year, Xiao Zhan has been worrying about the status of the emperor, it seems that he refused to be married even with Xiao Xingchen and that might be the reason why he didn’t go back to yet to his previous world, even didn’t even dream of talking again with his other self-Wei Wuxian.

“Xiao Zhan? It’s cold here, you should stay inside while waiting for customers,” Talu said as he covers him to another layer of cloth due to cold season. Talu is the name given to Youwen by Xiao Zhan, while Yubin to Wen Ning and Ziyi to Wen Qing.

“Talu, it’s been a year since we moved here. Aren’t you lonely?” Xiao Zhan asked as he sips his tea.

“Hahaha, how many times should I answer it? You are always asking it; it seems like you are the lonely one.”

“Hahaha that’s true.” Xiao Zhan simply answered as he sat beside the empress.

“Shifu! Shifu! Be honest with us! Are you and mister Talu like this?” One of the housewives he is teaching asked him, and signed kissing with her hands.

“Aiya! How many times should I say that we are not like that! We are just childhood friends,” Xiao Zhan said.

“Eh, you are always denying it, it is obvious that he is in love with you! Why do you have someone already?” Xiao Zhan flinched at the question; it is not new, he’s already used to it and just answered with a laugh.

“But really shifu, you should have given him a thought! He’s always on your side, he is reliable, handsome and a dominant alpha! If I am just beautiful as you, I will personally ask him to be my husband!”

“Aiyo, you guys are beautiful as well!”

“Ey, don’t tease us like that shifu! All of the single men here have their eyes on you, but they are just afraid of mister Talu and they are shy to approach you! We are grateful that you have decided to stay here, the village has become more lively and healthy because of your help. Thank you,” the housewife said.

“Thank you as well,” Xiao Zhan said and gave his sweetest smile, it might be painful to wait for his return to his previous world, but he has no choice but to accept his current situation.

“Help! Help us! Someone was buried in the snow near behind shifu’s house!”

“Eh? Near my house?!” Xiao Zhan asked.

“Where’s mister Talu and Yubin?” someone asked.

“They are in another village with Ziyi, they have some business in there,” Xiao Zhan said.

“What should we do shifu?”

“Let’s get that person first in my house, and please call the elder doctor,” Xiao Zhan said.

Upon arriving at his house, he saw some people who were still trying to cover the person with the blanket, and they asked them to put him in Xiao Zhan’s house. The doctor checks the current situation of the patient, and the good thing is that he’s no longer in danger and just needs to rest but they need to make sure that he will be provided with some warm clothes and food.

Some of the villager offers their help, since their shifu is currently alone and the man seems like a strong man based on his built and he’s a handsome man at that. So, some men villager volunteers to guard their shifu’s house since they have a stranger at home, since he became a special person on their village.

During that night, Xiao Zhan observed the patient and keep him warm, and at midnight the stranger woke up and Xiao Zhan asked if he is alright, but the stranger suddenly grabbed his wrist and kissed Xiao Zhan, due to the sudden action, Xiao Zhan pushed the stranger and he fell back on his butt, by a sudden noise the two-villager guarding outside the house, went inside asked him.

“Shifu! Are you okay!”

“Ah-y-yes I’m fine I’m just shocked since he woke up suddenly, you may leave now, I can handle this, he is just an injured person, thank you, you can rest now.”

“Alright, but we will still guard you,” the two villagers left the house and guard at the outside.

Xiao Zhan checked the stranger again, however upon checking on him, he falls asleep again and mumbles to himself, “What was that! But why does it feels familiar?”

The morning came and Xiao Zhan also fell asleep and when he opens his eyes, the stranger is looking at him.

“Wahh You scared me!”

“Shifu? Are you okay?” Some of the villager asked when they saw the shocked shifu, Xiao Zhan noticed that there’s a lot of food on their table the stranger only accepts it while the villagers wait on his porch, it turns out that stranger refused to let them enter the house and just accepts the food since Xiao Zhan is still sleeping and the stranger kindly moved him on the bed when he saw him sleeping beside the bed in an uncomfortable position.

The elder doctor checked the stranger again and told him to keep his body warm. The villagers asked a few questions to the handsome stranger, but it seems that he doesn’t want to answer, while Xiao Zhan has been preparing to go to his restaurant and serve some food. There’s no need to lock his house since the villagers here are honest and they seem to like him as well, but before he can leave his house, the stranger asked him, “Where are you going?” Everyone was amazed by how deep his voice is and it is somehow familiar with Xiao Zhan that’s why he flinched.

“Uhm, to my work? You can stay here with the villagers, they are good people,” Xiao Zhan said.

“I’ll come with you,” the stranger said. No matter how much Xiao Zhan rejected him, the stranger insisted, and he only talked to him. He is still awkward about what happened last night, and it seems that the stranger cannot remember what happened, so he has no choice but to take him as well.

The villagers asked Xiao Zhan when will Talu would come back since he would be alone with the stranger, no matter how handsome he is, he is still a stranger, and he is staying at their shifu’s house, and the stranger seems to like shifu as well. The stranger heard it and asked who Talu is, the villager teased Xiao Zhan that Talu is his husband, Xiao Zhan just laugh with them as he is already used to their teasing.

Xiao Zhan didn’t bother correcting them since they knew they were just teasing and indirectly inform the stranger to not act anything strange since the shifu is not alone. Xiao Xhan just laugh with the villagers while serving some foods and since he’s just a stranger there’s no used in explaining but the stranger looks at him like he looks so hurt and somehow waiting for an answer from, but the stranger didn’t hear anything from Xiao Zhan and just clenched his fist.
