“Where’s Wen Qing, Wen Ning?” Xiao Zan asked.

“I haven’t seen her Your Highness ever since she reported to the prime minister, well this might not the first case that this happened,” Wen Ning said. The two of them were informed by Wen Qing that the prime minister asked her to spy on the empress.

Wen Ning helped the empress to get dressed for the celebration as they would give a speech as well during the ceremony. The ceremony started and there were some performances as well, so far, the celebration has been peaceful, and Lan Zhan just kept his poker face, and he does not even know what he is thinking.

After the consecutive performances the prime minister asked the guard to open the gate for the public and the empress and those who are not in coalition with the prime minister were shocked, since this celebration is solely for the palace. Once the public people entered the palace the prime minister greeted them and announced the next performance.

“It is our job to show the public how strong our force is to secure the peacefulness in them, the following performance will be between the Minister of War and the Emperor of course to show how strong our military power is,” the prime minister announced and Xiao Zhan and everyone was shocked due to the sudden dule that was proposed in front of the public.

Everyone knew that the emperor is a puppet emperor and cannot even defend himself, and on contract the minister of War, Youwen, is known for his swordsmanship and leadership. Some of the public people are gossiping and some of them are laughing due to the thinking that it is not a fair fight, and the emperor will just embarrass himself.

“But Prime Minister, why is there a sudden duel?” Xiao Zhan asked worriedly. He knew that the emperor could fight but he cannot show it publicly for now, he has been doing good until now, so what’s with the sudden test from the minister?

“Hahaha, see everyone our empress is merciful and worried that the two greatness men in the empire will get hurt, but do not worry Our Empress, they are great warriors, Isn’t that right Minister of War?” Wen Rouhan said.

“I agree your prime minister, and do not worry Your Highness, we will fight man to man,” Youwen said and kneel as a sign of a respect to the empress only and ask the empress for his handkerchief for a good luck during the duel, but the emperor didn’t let him do it.

“There’s no need for you to give up your precious handkerchief My Empress, we will finish this duel like a man like the minister of war have said, and may I request for this red ribbon of yours to feel at ease,” Lan Zhan said as he stands in front of the empress and gentle grabs the red ribbon in his hair. The empress blushed at the sudden action of the emperor and gave him his precious red ribbon, while the emperor and the minister of war just glared at each other.

The duel started with the two of them unsheathing their words and Youwen was always on offense and always attacking the emperor, while on the other hand the emperor keeps on dodging the attack and the crowds has been cheering for the minster of war. Lan Zhan tried to attack Youwen in not obvious way and of the crowds laugh at him, the prime minister wanted to publicly execute him by humiliating him in front of his subject, all he can do is to grits his teeth and accept the disgrace instead of Wen Rouhan discovering that he has a good swordsmanship.

After some time, it is evident that the emperor lost and the minister of war tried to finish him, Lan Zhan looked at the empress and unfortunately, he was not looking at him but instead he is looking at the minister of war, this somehow irritated him. However, what the empress is doing is giving a signal to the minister of war not to harm the emperor but of course no one can understand that and the emperor though that the empress is deeply worried with the minister of war instead, so he decided to seriously attacked the minister of war due to jealousy, and with that everyone was shocked and jaw dropped by how he managed to slash in half the duel sword that they are using.

“What luck, I guess you let me win Minister of War,” Lan Zhan said and dropped the sword.

“No, Your Majesty, congratulations on your win,” Youwen said as he respectfully bows in front of the emperor for formality, since they are using a practice sword it was easily broken besides the prime minister also asked him to let him win after assessing the emperor’s swordsmanship and humiliate him in public.

In front of others, it seems like the emperor doesn’t really have any talent in cultivation and swordsmanship, but Youwen never held back, so he knew that the emperor was hiding his skills, besides the empress has been giving him signal. So, for now, he will keep it first and ask the empress about it later, but he needs to fully investigate the emperor and he might have danger the empress. After the duel the attendants prepare for the formal ceremony wherein the emperor will give light an incense and give respect to the late kings.

“Let me light an incense for the late king as well Your Majesty,” Xiao Zhan asked, he wanted to do this much as he is the current empress.

“There’s no need to my empress, I will do it alone.” Lan Zhan said as he dismissed the empress and Xiao Zhan felt a bit offended by it.

As the emperor started giving respect to the late king’s portrait, he also gave some speeches and messages in front of the public people, and some of the crowns are snickering especially after he was humiliated by the minister of war during the duel. The emperor just clenched his fist and started bowing and giving respect to his father, after lighting the incense a loud bang was heard all throughout the palace and followed by screaming of the people.

While everyone was in panic, Xiao Zhan ran towards to the emperor, something in front of the emperor exploded as he lit the incense and with this the emperor was covered in blood and his ears were ringing by the loud explosives. The empress checks his wounds, but it seemed that the emperor can no longer hear him and is losing his consciousness.

“Oh no, no, no! Lan Zhan! Lan Zhan! Do wake up! Wake up!” Xiao Zhan desperately screamed as the emperor lost consciousness.

While Lan Xichen and Xue Yang, hurriedly guard and assisted them and call for the doctor on his palace.

Wen Qing woke up in a familiar room as she heard the lang explosion outside and hurriedly checked what it was, and she was stunned by the commotion that she saw and the weeping empress with the emperor in his lap, and his attendance quickly get him into his room. She hurriedly ran to follow them and as the empress saw her, she begged her again to heal him, like what he did in the Xianwu cave.

After some time, Wen Qing tried to heal the emperor’s wound and declared that he was in an unconscious state and must cover almost half of his face due to the direct explosion in front of him. She informed them that they still needed to observe the emperor for the few days. The empress didn’t leave the room and stayed with the emperor.

“Lan Zhan, please wake up, I will take your confession seriously, so please wake up,” Xiao Zhan mumbles as he holds the emperor’s hand. His hands trembled as he remembered what happened earlier, for some reason it reminds him of when Yibo decided to break up with him and left him.

Due to Wei Wuxian’s memories Xiao Zhan realized that he was a reincarnation of Wei Ying that is living in another world, this might also be the reason why he couldn’t take his off with the emperor even though he looks liked Wang Yibo, and the fact that Yibo might be a reincarnation of the emperor as well. But he is in love with Yibo and he needs to give the emperor a happy ending as well to get back into his world, because by the end of this, this is not his original world and this is his past life, but it is still devastating to see the emperor in this state and everything have changed because of his arrival here.

“Please, please wake up,” Xiao Zhan mumbles and tears fall down from his eyes.
