Hepeng led Lingjiao to an old shack in the woods. The room was not very big, and the walls were mottled. Shimmering orange light went through the cracks.

Hepeng reached for the door, but Lingjiao took his hand. “Wait for me outside. She used to be my mother-in-law, and I want to say something to her alone. It won’t take long.”

“Well, if you need anything, let me know. I’ll just talk to the driver over there.” Hepeng pointed to where the van was parked.”Be safe.”

“Yes.” Lingjiao patted him on the shoulder.

Hepeng turned away, leaving room for Lingjiao, who opened the door.

The iron door let out a squeak.

Lingjiao entered the room. The center of the room was empty and a few unused objects were stacked in the corners. Carmen was strapped into a chair in the center.

Her head bent down, and the hair in elegant style was now messy. The strands of hair obscured her face, and the dim light above her head cast shadows over her, obscuring her shape and expression.

Lingjiao stepped on the high-heeled shoes, and walked elegantly to Carmen. Looking at Carmen, who was once so dignified, but now so poor and pathetic, she felt unprecedentedly satisfied.

As if given a stimulant, she was excited and was in a good mood.

Lingjiao snorted and said sarcastically, “Mrs. Jin, you didn’t think you’d be here, did you?”
