Xiao Zhan

He can smell the fresh air… it is so blue. …never in his life he saw this much clear water…

But where he is, it looks like a beach…

He start walking towards the water.. like it’s calling him to be there…

But then he felt someone is shaking him…

He can hear voices but they are so unclear… then he heard someone yelled. “Zhan open your eyes… somebody’s fucking call the doctor now!”

He follows the order of the person and opened his eyes and saw him.

But Zhan was so in pain that his eyes drop… he needs water first.

Oh god that was a dream now this man is back.. he didn’t die… why… he should be happy but he is feeling nothing just numb.

Then he heard someone say gently.

“Zhan, open your eyes…”

Then he felt himself to be laying on soft mattress it was so soft and comfy that all he wants to do is sleep…

He is afraid this moment will go again and he has to sleep on the hard floor …

After a year and so much torture in his marriage he needs this kind of comfortable sleep.

But then he felt the sprinkle of water on his face.

He groaned & open his eyes.. saw Mrs Shuli soft eyes first then Mrs Wang emotionless eyes and then he saw the devil…

Yibo eyes were strange & Zhan doesn’t know why Yibo was looking at him like he is concerned…

Yibo comes closer and said. “Zhan are you ok… the doctor is coming.”

For the first time in his marriage Zhan felt Yibo tone to be hesitant and sort of less harsh.

By habit, Zhan looked down and said weakly. “water…”

Mrs. Shuli come to him and she put the glass on Zhan’s mouth, he then felt the first drop of heaven…

Oh god for 5 days he had been starving but the real craving for water was so strong that Zhan was ready to be dead than living like this…

In his small glimpses he saw Yibo be really concerned about him but this is fake…

Zhan knows Yibo is only worried if something happens to him, he might go to jail…

Then he heard the doctor came, after checking Zhan and looking at his bruises doctor raised an eyebrow but do not say anything…

Of course she was paid in advance to keep her mouth shut, she asked Zhan some questions like where he is hurting the most, is he hungry or not, but Zhan didn’t say a word he just nodes or shakes his head..

Yibo didn’t tell him what to say anything in front of the doctor so Zhan is confused…

He always tells him what to say to strangers or anyone…

If he says something Yibo will put him in that room again…

The doctor looks at his vitals….

But all Zhan want her to be gone and he needs good food and lots of good sleep… When she will be gone… stupid tears were coming because of his condition… Zhan closed his eyes in frustration.

Yibo said. “Is he ok.”

“Mr Wang your wife is dehydrated and extremely weak. He has lost like 10 pounds in five day which is very fatal in some cases…”

“It looks like he has some panic attack during the starvation period which disturbs his whole body system if I say in simple terms…”

“And I note down some vitamins and medicine for his pain and you can give him light food but in a good quantity. Feed him good for next few days.”

Doctor said in professional tone.

Yibo said thank you…to her… “Mrs Shuli get something for Zhan now.”

“Yes sir.” Mrs Shuli run to the kitchen.

Yibo said in a hush voice “Are you sure he will ok!”

The doctor said. “Physically he will be but mentally it depends on the trauma he is in but I note down some anti-depression too… give him some of these… I felt he really need it.”

Zhan doesn’t know how doctor felt about that because all he felt is numbness.

Not depression maybe this is the symptoms but he doesn’t feel anything… which making him more insane.. he should block their voices but then he smell something so delicious that with great effort he opened his eyes and saw Mrs Shuli holding a warm chicken soup with an orange juice…

Looking at that tears were falling and Zhan realized he can feel his hunger and now he was crying without sound.

And then he saw everyone was looking at him with a disturbing expression…

Mrs Shuli sit with Zhan pat his hand like she can understand his pain and then she settles his body in a sitting position and with her hands she feed him…

Zhan saw Yibo and eyes were so deep and ghostly like he remembered something else he looked at him and open his mouth but then he closed and walked from there with the doctor…

Zhan took a relief breath thank god he is gone…

Mrs. Shuli said. “My child, my beautiful child I’m so sorry I can’t help you.”

Zhan shakes his head and gives her a shaky smile.

“It’s ok… not your fault.” Zhan just said the longest sentence since he was awake… maybe more food will make him more vocal.

After food he falls asleep immediately in the comfy bed.

He doesn’t know how long he slept but he felt someone was shaking him.

Zhan opened his eyes and saw the soft deep eyes staring at him that gives him nightmares for a year…

fuck… Zhan makes a fear sound and put the arm on his face in defense…

He heard Yibo took a deep breath and said in his authoritative voice.

“Zhan I brought dinner for you then you need to eat medicine… come on get up.”

Zhan relaxed a little but still tense.

Yibo holds his body and Zhan can feel his finger digging on his body… although Yibo is not hard on him still it hurts… maybe he lost a lot of weight.

Yibo put him in a sitting position & put a small table on bed with a warm plate of food with a glass of milk and a juice.

Zhan saw his plate next to the coffee table Yibo picks his plate and starts eating his dinner while watching Tv.

Zhan was confused should he eat now. He always eat after everyone in the house has eaten the food…

But Yibo is having the food in front of him, so should he wait and eat when Yibo is done with his dinner?… then he heard.

“Zhan eat… it will get cold.. it’s just a food.. don’t think too much.” he said in a authoritative but soft voice.

Zhan did what Yibo said because that’s his role…

After food and medicine… he wanted to go to the toilet… Zhan stands but failed and sit on the bed to stable himself..

He try again this time holding the wall for support but then Yibo came from nowhere and said.

“Where you are going… do you want to go to washroom? Need my help?”

Zhan looked strangely at Yibo.

he said help… he wants to help me but what’s the catch for him.. there always something…

Zhan shakes his head in a scared manner …

Yibo looks at him like he was seeing him for the first time and nodes and give him space.

After the washroom, Zhan wants to lie down but he saw Yibo laying on the bed…

Shit now he has to sleep on the floor…

He was so tired he doesn’t want to even put the mattress on the floor but what choice he has…

He softly walked and opened the cupboards and was taking out the mattress when Yibo said.

“Leave it, Zhan, you can sleep in the bed… no need for that anymore come on.”

Yibo took him by arm and settle him on the bed and said. “Now sleep.”

Zhan was so confused and scared what the hell is happening here…
